NIMASA Hosts Regional Training On Biofouling Technology Transfer

The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has said that as part of efforts to explore the newest technologies in Biofouling and in compliance to International Maritime Organization (IMO) rules, it is hosting a 3-day Biofouling Management Training for coastal states within the African continent.

FG commits to scaling up Nigeria’s global port rating

The federal government, FG, through the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has expressed its commitment to scaling up Nigeria’s port rating in the global maritime space.

Rivers State has been shown the strategies to fly off with the recently introduced ‘blue economy’ and dig deep into the $1.5trn global value in the emerging sector.

Maritime union trains staff on modern administrative techniques

Dr Adewale Adeyanju, the President General, of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has trained the union’s secretariat staff on modern office techniques for effective operations.

Adeyanju in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos said the secretariat staff were drawn from the union’s headquarters, the Nigerian Port Authority; dockworkers; shipping; and the seafarers branches of the union.

Stakeholders harp on collaboration for effective NPPM implementation

Stakeholders in the port sector have indicated that effective implementation of the Nigerian Port Process Manual, NPPM, through the Presidential Port Standing Task Team, PSTT, would need collaboration amongst the industry players.

NIMASA’s act amendment bill passes first reading at senate

The bill to amend the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Act has passed the first reading on the floor of the Nigerian Senate.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, who announced this during a working visit by the committee to NIMASA office in Lagos, yesterday, noted that the Senate of the 10th National Assembly is committed to formulating policies that would ensure Nigerians enjoy the benefits of the blue economy.… Read the rest

Navy arrests vessel laden with over 200 drums of PMS

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT patrol team has arrested a large fibre boat involved in illegal bunkering activities in Igboelejo community area of Lagos state.

The vessel contains 205 drums of a substance suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other products.

According to the Base information officer, Sub Lieutenant HA Collins, the NNS patrol team in a decisive response to intelligence received on 5th October 2023 through the state-of-the-art Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, the Falcon Eye Alignment, thwarted an illegal bunkering activity, meanwhile the perpetrators abandoned the boat and fled upon sighting our patrol team.… Read the rest

Maritime Union Directs Workers To Resume, Says NLC Strike Cancelled

The Executive Members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have directed their members to resume work at the nation’s seaports and oil and gas platform.

Nigerian Navy arrests eight stowaways in Lagos

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has arrested eight stowaways onboard Charminar Panama.

They were arrested on Friday at 2.00 a.m. by its patrol team during its routine patrol of the maritime environment.

Base Information Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, Apapa Lagos, Sub Lieutenant HA Collins said the eight persons were arrested based on actionable intelligence, while they were attempting to exit the country through a vessel Charminar Panama within Lagos anchorage.… Read the rest
