NPA welcomes 24 maritime nations in Lagos

Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) has granted hosting rights to its 43rd yearly Council and 18th Managing Directors’ Roundtable to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

NIMASA Hosts Regional Training On Biofouling Technology Transfer

The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has said that as part of efforts to explore the newest technologies in Biofouling and in compliance to International Maritime Organization (IMO) rules, it is hosting a 3-day Biofouling Management Training for coastal states within the African continent.

FG commits to scaling up Nigeria’s global port rating

The federal government, FG, through the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has expressed its commitment to scaling up Nigeria’s port rating in the global maritime space.

Nigerian Navy inaugurates new offshore patrol vessel

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla has inaugurated a High Endurance Offshore Patrol Vessels (HE OPVs) for the Nigerian Navy at the Dearsan Shipyard, Tuzla in Istanbul, Turkey.

This is contained in a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, on Sunday in Abuja.

Why freight forwarders must accept review of terminal charges – Aniebonam

Boniface Aniebonam, founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), has said that terminal operators deserved to increase storage charges at the nation’s seaports given the impact of high energy cost and naira devaluation on their operational cost.

According to him, the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government, the high cost of diesel, and the declining value of the naira have led to the high operating cost at the port, thereby necessitating an increase in charges.… Read the rest

Maritime union trains staff on modern administrative techniques

Dr Adewale Adeyanju, the President General, of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has trained the union’s secretariat staff on modern office techniques for effective operations.

Adeyanju in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos said the secretariat staff were drawn from the union’s headquarters, the Nigerian Port Authority; dockworkers; shipping; and the seafarers branches of the union.

Stakeholders harp on collaboration for effective NPPM implementation

Stakeholders in the port sector have indicated that effective implementation of the Nigerian Port Process Manual, NPPM, through the Presidential Port Standing Task Team, PSTT, would need collaboration amongst the industry players.

The bill to amend the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Act has passed the first reading on the floor of the Nigerian Senate.

Navy arrests vessel laden with over 200 drums of PMS

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT patrol team has arrested a large fibre boat involved in illegal bunkering activities in Igboelejo community area of Lagos state.

The vessel contains 205 drums of a substance suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other products.

According to the Base information officer, Sub Lieutenant HA Collins, the NNS patrol team in a decisive response to intelligence received on 5th October 2023 through the state-of-the-art Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, the Falcon Eye Alignment, thwarted an illegal bunkering activity, meanwhile the perpetrators abandoned the boat and fled upon sighting our patrol team.… Read the rest
