Maritime Workers to commence strike action November 14 over attack on NLC President

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) will commence a nationwide strike by midnight, Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Customs, stakeholders to implement 48-hour cargo clearance to facilitate trade

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and maritime stakeholders have brainstormed on how to implement a 48-hour cargo clearance process to facilitate trade in the nation’s Ports.

This was the thrust of discussion when the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, convened a meeting with stakeholders to address the urgent need for the evacuation of overtime cargoes at the port.

The CGC engaged in productive discussions with terminal operators, truck owners, Licensed Customs Agents, and other essential stakeholders within the port environment.Read the rest

Investment in oil, gas falls 77% to $5bn in 7 yrs

Investment into the Nige ria’s oil and gas industry dropped by 77.3 per cent to $5 billion in 2021, from $22 billion in 2014, due mainly to increased divestment by the International Oil Companies, IoCs.

The drop in investment is further worsend by the inability of other companies, except a few independents to invest in the industry.

NPA shops for N878.9 trillion to rehabilitate dilapidated port infrastructure in Nigerian Ports

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), on Tuesday, said it is committed to investing about N878.9 trillion,  ($1.1 billion) in the rehabilitation of all the seaports in Nigeria.

It said the investment is to ensure a strong commitment to fortify Nigeria’s trade competitiveness to harness the gains in the Blue Economy.

Recalled that the Minster of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, had during a tour of the Lagos ports decried the state of facilities in the seaports

Speaking during a panel session during the 43rd PMAWCA (Port Management Association of West and Central Africa) conference held in Lagos, Mohammed Bello Koko, the Managing Director of NPA, stated that with almost every port in Nigeria requiring rehabilitation, the NPA is initiating a substantial overhaul, starting with the TinCan and Apapa ports in Lagos.… Read the rest

Nigeria can tap into $2.5trn blue economy with adequate infrastructure –Jamoh

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has said that with adequate infrastructure, Nigeria can harness $2.5 trillion and 350 million jobs opportunities embedded in the world blue economy. 

Jamoh said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of a five-day training for journalists on maritime security reporting organised by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in collaboration with Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NIMASA in Lagos.Read the rest

NESG: Executive Order 5 should be extended beyond oil, gas – Adubi

Bukola Adubi, the chief operating officer of MicCom Cables and Wires, has emphasised the need to extend the implementation of Executive Order 5 (EO5) beyond the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.

NDDC, TotalEnergies to collaborate on renewable energy

Academic urges CNG dev., operational refineries to address Nigeria’s energy challenges

An Academic, Dr Yetunde Aladeitan has urged a comprehensive energy strategy that combines Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), improved refinery operations, and investment in renewable energy sources to address Nigeria’s energy challenges.

Aladeitan urged the Federal Government to consider the long-term sustainability and affordability of these energy solutions while addressing the concerns of the citizens.
