NIMASA digitalizes seafarers’ registration, places over 11,000 onboard Cabotage vessels

In a bid to further enhance a reliable database for seafarers in Nigeria, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NINASA, has commenced the electronic registration of sailors.

In a statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations department of the agency, Mr. Osage Edward, Director General of the NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, said that one of the cardinal principles of the Cabotage regime is the localization of manning of vessels operating in Nigerian waters.… Read the rest

FG to deepen EITI implementation in oil, gas, solid minerals sectors – SGF

The Federal Government says it will support and deepen the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in the management of Nigeria’s oil, gas, and solid mineral resources.

Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja while unveiling the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) 2021 Solid Minerals Industry Report.

The report, with its theme “Impact built on blocking leakages to grow revenue” is the 12th in a cycle and aimed at producing a solid minerals industry report for 2021 in accordance with the EITI standard.… Read the rest

Subsidy ‘returns’ as FG leverages NNPC to manage market shocks

There are indications that the Federal Government may have returned subsidy payment on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), using the supposed commercialised Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to manage the market shocks and maintain monopoly of the downstream segment of the nation’s oil and gas industry.

According to The Guardian analysis, about N318 billion (N10.6 billion) monthly losses are now recorded on petrol and may be calculated as under-recovery by the supposed NNPC Limited.… Read the rest

Reps probe water resources ministry over assets disposal

House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Disposal of Public Property has begun a probe into disposal of assets belonging to the 12 River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) in 2018 by the Ministry of Water Resources.

Maritime Workers Shut Down Seaports Nationwide

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has shut down all the nation’s seaports in compliance with the two-day warning strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The NLC, on Tuesday, commenced a two-day Sit-At-Home warning strike in protest against the Federal Government’s failure to address the challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidies.

It accused the Federal Government of insincerity, lack of commitment to negotiations and failure to implement some of the resolutions from previous meetings with the government.… Read the rest

Anger, frustration as cooking gas price rises by 9%

A nine per cent hike in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) (cooking gas) has added to the frustrations of Nigerians and thrown many into the energy poverty net.

Checks by Daily Sun in Abuja at the weekend showed that cooking gas prices shot up from N680 per kilogram to N745/N746 per kilogram. NUPRC issues ultimatum on 3% remittance to oil communities

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has threatened to revoke the licences of oil operators or settlors who failed to remit the three per cent statutory fees to oil communities before September ending.

The NUPRC management on Friday said its attention had been drawn to the agitation by host communities in the oil and gas producing areas of the Niger Delta region over the delay by industry settlors/operators in remitting the statutory fees.… Read the rest

Fuel price will drop to N200 per litre with functional refineries – IPMAN

Joseph Obele, the Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter has said the price of Premium Motor Spirit, known as petrol, would drop to N200/per litre if the country’s refineries are fixed.

Obele disclosed this on Friday in a statement while reacting to the soaring price of fuel after subsidy removal in June.
